Serum Integrated Screening —
without NT sonography

(41989 & 41962)
  • Comprehensive two-test option when NT-certified sonography is unavailable
  • Overall Down syndrome detection rate for serum integrated screening is 86%, with an overall false positive rate of 4%.

First Trimester Prenatal Screen

(41980)
  • Single test conducted between 10 weeks, 5 days and 13 weeks, 6 days of gestation that screens for Down syndrome and trisomy 18
  • Requires an NT-certified sonogram
  • Detection rate of 80% for Down syndrome with a 5% overall false positive rate.

Sequential Integrated Screening —
with NT sonography

(41990 & 41968)
  • This comprehensive two-test screening offers the highest detection rates (90% for Down syndrome) coupled with the lowest false positive results (3%).
  • Testing is performed Monday through Friday, with results available within 48 hours of receipt. Integrated results released within 2-3 days of receipt of 2nd trimester specimen.
  • Requires first trimester nuchal translucency (NT) sonogram by an NT-certified sonographer. Results from the sonogram and the two-prenatal screens are integrated by the lab through a complex calculation process.

Which Screen Do I Order?

For patients presenting in the first trimester, order the Sequential Integrated Screening tests (41990 & 41968), if NT sonography is available.

For patients presenting in the second trimester, the traditional Quad Marker (41955) provides the highest DR and lowest FPR for a second trimester–only test.
